Brule-St. Croix Community Wildfire Protection Plan

Working together to reduce wildfire risk

FREE CURBSIDE BRUSHING  – starting June 5th, 2023

The Village of Solon Springs is considered to be at very high risk of damage from wildfire to homes, property and the natural surroundings. In response, a Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) was created and adopted by the Village of Solon Springs and surrounding towns of Wascott, Gordon and Highland in 2011 to address wildfire concerns. One of the action items in this plan involves working with property owners to reduce the amount of hazardous vegetation on their property.

The majority of buildings destroyed by wildfire in Wisconsin occur during fires that burn less than five acres. Oftentimes, homes and other buildings are destroyed or threatened by a wildfire that starts on their property or their neighbor’s because of a backyard brush fire that gets out of control. To reduce the amount of debris burning in the Village of Solon Springs, a free curbside brushing day is being offered.

The steps involved are simple. You DO NOT need to be present.

  • Get your name on the pick-up list by June 1st, 2023. Contact the Village Clerk at 715-378-2235 and leave a message. (Name, Address and Phone Number)
  • Clean up brush around your property.
  • Stack brush by your fire number sign with butt ends toward the road and near the edge of the road but not obstructing traffic. Please do not put stumps, leaves or pine needles in the stacks. This should be done NO LATER than June 5th, 2023.

¨ Maximum brush diameter is 4 inches

¨ Piles should be no higher than 5 feet

¨ Brush should be loosely stacked—do NOT pack down the piles

¨ Brush piles will be left if any household items, foreign objects, stumps or root balls are found in the pile

Most of Wisconsin’s wildfires happen in the spring. That’s why it’s very important that we work to make our homes and cabins “Firewise” this time of year. Watch for information regarding a future Village-wide brush clean-up in the fall.

 Sincerely,

Jonathon Brostowitz

Village of Solon Springs Trustee and Firewise Coordinator
